The works of Dimitris Xonoglou are distinguished for their exuberant imagination and their explosive dynamism. You can catch the pulse, the emotion and the meaning of an individual expression that already belongs to the collective code of the new iconography. Or it would be a little if this research artist stopped there. Xonoglou revives the fire of his love for color. The candle has color, the burnt ones have color, the flour has color. They are not enough for him. Pure ultra mare, vermicelli, cadmium yellow and pure gold leaves set up another dance of fire colors, surrounding the remnants of real fire. Xonoglou, no matter what he does, is a painter to the core. The concepts for him have a color, a glorious and pulsating color… Matoula Skaltsa, professor of art history at the Department of Architecture of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.
“… Everything happens like George Tsakiris with his sculptures that result from these installations (such as the ΄΄ Pigeons ΄΄ – three sculptures- pigeons to attract and live pigeons in the square of XANTH in Thessaloniki or as the functional ΄΄Spinning Machines΄΄) to claim a poetic bridge, between the self-sufficiency of the web of life and the dependence of the artist from nature as his only possibility, to save its traces, -as the most authentic and marginal, his own initiative. A work of an exceptional absoluteness and unique clarity of the gaze, a quality of obsession with the same systematic object, Tsakiris’s work shows us the emotion that binds and warms the poetry itself – of the organic and biological function… »Emmanuel Mavrommatis of AUTh.
Έλλη Elli Chrysidou ended up, after a course of time, freeing herself from the idealistic mixture of otherness in her work and leading to a kind of redemptive painting. Heartfelt because it recognizes the unspeakable of the heart, the limits and responsibilities of its artistic freedom. To the extent that we accept the symbolic function of color or the dominant motif in a section of works, the artist touches the whole range. The heavy color, the rough and kinesthetic, very often, imprinting of images-symbols, reflects the ability of the thought and the body to come out of the representation of the world, the image, therefore, is not the simulation but the representation of the world. Ch. Savvopoulos professor of art history, School of Fine Arts of AUTh.
