On Friday, October 24, at 8:00 pm, the Papatzikou Gallery in Veria opens an exhibition entitled: “overlay of memory” with paintings and engravings by Velisarios Kristic.

The painter and engraver Velisarios Kristic, professor of Painting at the Belgrade School of Fine Arts, lives and works in Belgrade, but has been present in our country’s art events since 1978, when he worked in the Greek State’s Engraving Workshop at the Higher School with a Greek state scholarship. Of Arts of Athens. Since then, the living presence of his works and his personality is at any opportunity, here in our country.

For the specific section of works presented by the artist in this exhibition, the art historian Sofia Kazazi, in October 1997, had characterized the work of Velisarios Kristic as follows: “In the history of forms there are artists who experience in the most shocking way the injustice of human destiny. Violence, humiliation and the annihilation of man by man are also recorded in his work by Velissarios Kristic with insane immediacy. His painting for those who have seen his exhibitions in Greece in the years 1992-97 is nothing but the essence of a deep bitterness for the violence and death that took place in his homeland. Now, with the series of works “Memory Overlay”, the artist’s exit from hell is marked. His paintings and engravings pulsate with intense color rhythms. Some faint memories are preserved in the geometry of the surface, however the dominance of red, the color of passion and joy, together with the fragmentary forms of our modern consumer environment drag you to life and joy. The main theme of Belisarius Kristic is the search for the face as a unit but also as a multiple identity, these are paintings and engravings that the artist insists on cutting the thematic content of the whole, part of the face, mouth, eye, ear, oval head , hand, foot etc. (as a reconstructive function) which in addition to the numerical signaling and the contribution of the mental emotional moods that come from the wavelengths of its color choices, create a rich plastic layer on the canvas or in the engraving of the design on the metal plate as far as it is concerned. his engravings, and symbolizes the codification or decoding from one work to another; symbols faces isolated from street posters, advertising banners from the modern world of advertising and show biz. Exercising in his own personal way the critique of the modern image of his life, of our life, overlapping the memory of the past…
